Then when I got the epidural it numbed one leg and nothing else (happened on all 3 of my deliveries) I think its partly pain threshold too??Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-15442519584622241872010-04-08T01:51:50.730-05:002010-04-08T01:51:50.730-05:00Fyi rachel, In the US midwives can and do devliver...Fyi rachel, In the US midwives can and do devliver babies. In certain states midwives are very popular and women deliver at birthing centers where there's no surgical suites, hospital beds, etc. Just good ol' fashioned beds, hot tubs (for water births) and all natural births. Should problems arrise them are equipped to transfer a women to a nearby hospital and usually the hospital is very accepting of the midwives. In some areas midwives are part of a "practice" but the deliveries take place in a hospital setting. Some midwives even do home births!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-75413161457464572882010-04-03T21:23:23.214-05:002010-04-03T21:23:23.214-05:00Beautiful, beautiful! It is sometimes tricky to get the hospital staff to be supportive.(depending on the hospital, nurses, OB, etc)

Sounds like a lovely birth!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-13897899470964840662010-03-31T14:15:08.926-05:002010-03-31T14:15:08.926-05:00Ahhhh, I see! It is the reason we are gave as to why our degree will transfer everywhere in the world except the US! We don't have L&D nurses here. Just midwives and obstetricians hovering about the place!Rachelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-50362376530132799852010-03-30T11:06:22.734-05:002010-03-30T11:06:22.734-05:00I wish every delivery could be as beautiful as wha...I wish every delivery could be as beautiful as what you witnessed.
the scheduled c-section and recovery with DD was such a different experience (good) than the emergency section with DS 2 yrs ago.Rahshellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02582914409644187932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-44939674693160095632010-03-30T10:04:51.616-05:002010-03-30T10:04:51.616-05:00I *so* need to have more births like this. Maybe someday, I will be, but that is down the road. I am a registered nurse working in labor and delivery. Midwives do deliver their own babies here. Someday, maybe I'll be called midwife, but for now, I'm happy as a RN raising my 3 (soon to be 4) munchkins.Nurse Lochiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07137987823813922532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-79722576419701392742010-03-29T18:46:51.079-05:002010-03-29T18:46:51.079-05:00It is so rare that we see a delivery like this, bu...It is so rare that we see a delivery like this, but it always reminds me of why I do this job!Carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09352777684629956488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568619474449091271.post-16453441392140287622010-03-29T18:22:22.172-05:002010-03-29T18:22:22.172-05:00I follow your blog out of interest at how differen...I follow your blog out of interest at how different being a midwife in the states is to the UK! I am beginning university in September to train to be a midwife and I can't even imagine having to call a doctor in to catch the baby because you are not allowed to!
How would you describe your role as a midwife, out of interest? What does your job involve? I find it very interesting, the differences!Rachelnoreply@blogger.com
